In one week I will get on a mural-covered, bed-filled, converted school bus with my cast and crew of nine. We are taking The BOX on the road, and we want your help selling out all our performances. We need you to text 10 people you know in Austin, Fayetteville, St.Louis, Detroit, Chicago, Philly, Baltimore,D.C., Winston-Salem and Atlanta and tell them the End of Isolation Tour is coming to their town soon. Please do this now, we are a grass-roots operation and need your help!
The BOX has already had an impact on reducing solitary confinement in California, help us have an impact in ten more states. On the End of Isolation Tour, every performance is a chance to inspire someone to take action; each seat filled invites another person into the movement to end solitary confinement, decarcerate our prisons and jails, and imagine a bette way to do justice. Each location on the tour has powerful communities on the forefront of passing laws to end the practice of solitary confinement: Austin, Fayetteville, St. Louis, Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, D.C., Winston-Salem, and Atalanta.
"The BOX" is a piece of transformational theater that asks us to re-examine long-held notions of punishment and solitary confinement.
The BOX is a rare glimpse at the intimate bonds forged in the deep end of our prison system, the ripple effects of systematic torture, and what it means to be human.
I wrote The BOX in collaboration with other survivors of solitary confinement half our cast is formerly-incarcaerted. After each performance there will be an engagement circle inviting our audiences to call out for something other than what exists and help the choir sing! Let’s sell out shows, end torture of isolation and free ourselves and our communities from the soul-shrinking carceral state.
